Trying to learn 1000 Japanese kanji can be a daunting task. To make this job easier to grasp, the kanji are divided into six grades, very similar to the way they are taught in Japan. Furthermore, the kanji are divided into four parts called semesters. For example, the first grade contains 100 kanji, divided into four semesters of 25 kanji each.
This allows you to study the kanji in manageable units and you'll be able to gauge your progress very easily.
